ANTIOCH, CA-In an attempt to increase the number of sit-down restaurants in a city full of fast food drive-thrus, the City Council here is narrowing its list of acceptable eateries that can be developed within its borders. Councilman Don Freitas, who proposed the recently-approved changes, says he’s tired of the plethora of fast-food eateries in a city where residents are clamoring for more than a $0.99 cent cheeseburger.

So as a condition of the new Williamson Ranch plan in East Antioch, the council is requiring that the developer, Taylor Properties of Sacramento, fit each of its two restaurants planned for the Lone Tree Way site into one of two categories: a cafeteria or coffee shop-style eatery – such as Fresh Choice, Denny’s, Marie Callender’s or El Torito.
