The park was built on Alexander Railroad Co. land just east ofTaylorsville and developed as a joint venture between G.L. WilsonBuilding Co. and Statesville-based EnergyUnited. Since natural gasis now available in many part of the county, local officials arelooking to attract more companies to the base of furnituremanufacturers that dominate the local economy.

Local government officials are also considering an incentivepackage that could be offered to companies contemplating a move toAlexander County. But the county's remote location and the fragileinfrastructure of its existing industrial property in many wayshinder its economic progress, some industry observers note.

However, Alexander Business Park is in a prime location, withaccess to Alexander Railroad's short-line service from Taylorsvilleto Statesville. The developers are hoping to attract a lightindustrial operation to the new spec building, ideally a rail-usingtechnology firm.
