The victor, to be named early next year, will hold the contractfor redeveloping five of the city's most prime properties: a37,000-sf spot between Second and Third Streets; four historicbuildings totaling 23,300 sf at San Fernando and First Streets; a5.1-acre block at the corner of Santa Clara and First Streets; a1.2-acre parking lot west of South Second Street; and a 3.7-acreparcel at the corner of Second and San Fernando Streets.
City officials have made it clear that they would rather seeretail and high-density development use, injecting new life intodowntown San Jose. The city and developers foresee high-rises and amore urban look coming to the historically sleepy area.
