SAN JOSE, CA-Redevelopment officials here have winnowed the list of developers vying to remake the downtown area from 13 to seven in preparation for interviews this week. Finalists include New York-based Palladium Co. and mixed-use developer LCOR Inc.

The victor, to be named early next year, will hold the contract for redeveloping five of the city’s most prime properties: a 37,000-sf spot between Second and Third Streets; four historic buildings totaling 23,300 sf at San Fernando and First Streets; a 5.1-acre block at the corner of Santa Clara and First Streets; a 1.2-acre parking lot west of South Second Street; and a 3.7-acre parcel at the corner of Second and San Fernando Streets.

City officials have made it clear that they would rather see retail and high-density development use, injecting new life into downtown San Jose. The city and developers foresee high-rises and a more urban look coming to the historically sleepy area.
