New construction for office space was valued at $971 million andoffice space renovation figures were just over $119 million. Theonly other category to go above the $100 million mark was the hotelindustry, which is expected to garner about $144 million.
The study also showed that there are about 3,000 businessesoperating downtown, employing nearly 90,000 people. Annual salesfor downtown businesses totals $12 billion. The service industryand the government make up the largest sector of the workforce,with 43 and 16 percent, respectively.
