HOUSTON-Wal-Mart subsidiary Sam’s Club has purchased a site for a members-only warehouse store at Texas 6 and US Highway 90-A in Fort Bend County, southwest of Houston.

The 17-acre site will eventually see construction of a 128,000-sf store, which is scheduled to open in spring 2002, near an existing Wal-Mart SuperCenter. It will be Sam’s Club’s 12th Houston-area store and the first in Fort Bend County.

The Wolff Cos., a Houston land developer, has sold the tract to Wal-Mart. The parcel is part of 65 acres that Wolff had bought in 1998. The First Crossing Business Park had been developed on the acreage. The 17-acre sale leaves 18 acres of the original land purchase unsold. Wolff envisions office building and restaurants occupying the remaining space.
