Mann Contractors, the general contractor, is dividing thebuilding's former atrium to create a second-floor conference roomwith a vaulted ceiling. The firm had made several previousunsuccessful attempts at acquiring Uptown property.

According to Southern executive vice president David Goode, thenew space will be convenient to Downtown and give the firmincreased market presence. Southern will share the space with asister company, Development Management Inc., which leases andmanages shopping centers in the Carolinas and three otherSoutheastern states.
