HUDSON, MA-Intel Corp., the world’s largest chip maker, plans to enlarge its manufacturing plant here, to enable it to make the company’s most advanced computer processors, such as the Pentium 4 and the new Itanium. The investment, which will be largely in manufacturing equipment, also includes $250 million to build an addition to the Fab 17 chip-manufacturing facility.

“Our initial investment went very well,” Patrick Ward, the company’s local spokesman tells GlobeSt.Com. Ward is referring to the $800 million Intel has invested in the plant over the past year to upgrade the microchip factory. “This investment will continue to prepare Intel to be the leader in the industry.”

Intel bought the plant from Digital Equipment Corp. in 1998. According to Ward, the site here is the company’s largest on the East Coast. This investment will be the firm’s first big construction on this site.
