In a released statement, the locally-based financial companydenies the charges stating that the Minnesota attorney general'spress release and complaint "are inflammatory and containallegations that are inaccurate and based on incomplete facts….Wewill vigorously defend against these allegations."

Hatch charges that Fleet sells its customers' names addressesand loan account numbers to telemarketers who offer discountedservices. According to Hatch, Fleet and their telemarketers leadconsumers to believe that they are agreeing to a free trial in amembership club but fail to adequately inform the customer thatthey need to opt out or be automatically billed. Fleet bills thecustomer's mortgage account for the club.
