The city's redevelopment agency has signed a lease for ninewaterfront acres with Lighthouse Fast Ferry, based in land-lockedWest Caldwell, NJ. The site until recently belonged toInternational Group Petroleum, which had turned it over to the cityfor possible redevelopment. Service will be provided from anexisting ferry slip, inactive for nearly four decades, that wasrecently renovated by the Waterfront Association to EffectRestoration. A city grant of $1 million sparked the effort.

According to Lighthouse Fast Ferry officials, outbound servicewill make stops at Wall Street and East 34th Street in Manhattan.The company also expects to initiate special event-relatedtours.
