Gillette's HQ Expansion Plans May Get a Major Trim

BOSTON-Gillette Co.’s plans for a major expansion of its world headquarters and manufacturing plant in South Boston are running into a potential conflict with the Boston Redevelopment Authority, which is trying to develop additional open space.

Last year, Gillette acquired 10 additional acres right near its complex in the Fort Point Channel area where it planned to develop a huge office and technology complex. The problem is the city planned on developing park land that would cut across the Gillette land and extend all the way to the Fort Point Channel. This park land would connect the proposed new convention center here to the channel and to the planned Harbor Walk.

Gillette did not return calls by press time, but reportedly the company is concerned about a park cutting through its complex, which plans to house 2,500 employees. The company also objects to the development of the park land on what is prime space on their property.

Gillette is currently in negotiations with the BRA.
