GOLDEN VALLEY, MN-Harmon Inc. has recently launched a pilot program focusing on clients’ renovation project needs. Charles Mowrey, who was named vice president of business development responsible for the pilot project, will oversee the effort.

The company works with owners, architects, consultants, contractors and suppliers to engineer and install glazing systems on new construction, maintain and repair existing buildings and assess and design solutions for major renovations.

Mowrey’s assignment will be to develop a team to offer clients expertise both in glazing systems and renovating existing buildings.

Harmon choose Minnesota for its pilot program because the company has two decades of renovation and restoration experience in the Twin Cities area. Mowrey is assembling a Harmon Renovation team and is workingwith the company’s information systems manager, Dennis Anderson, to develop a proprietary database of future renovation projects for each property owner.

Within the next two years, Harmon Renovation plans to launch similar pilot programs nationwide. Mowrey sees the most potential among buildings 30 years old to 40 years old located in “the rust belt,” where buildings have sustained harsh weather and are in need of significant repair. Additional opportunities will come from assessing and correcting indoor air qualityissues in “sick buildings” where mold and poor ventilation may be contributing to tenants’ health problems.

“With the aging of office, educational and institutional buildings, we see some exciting engineering opportunities where Harmon Inc. can make a real difference in the renovation process,” Mowrey says.

Mowrey began his career with Harmon 14 years ago and has served in sales, marketing and management positions over that time. Before that, Mowrey worked with Shelton Greer, an architectural panels manufacturer in Houston and with Composite Technologies, a fiberglass panel manufacturer in FortWorth, TX.

Harmon is one of the largest building glass services provider in the country, and is part of Apogee Enterprises based in Golden Valley, MN.
