The agency, 30 miles north of Downtown Orlando, is paying ThelmaMungen $40,000 and her lawyer $15,000. Mungen sued for $94,000 in1999.

When an Orlando federal court judge refused to further delay thetrial because the agency was unprepared with a legal defense,authority officials decided to settle out of court rather thanrisking getting hit with a $94,000 judgment plus undeterminedpunitive damages.

Prior to the suit's filing, the federal Equal EmploymentOpportunity Commission in Miami upheld Mungen's claims for sexualdiscrimination.
