The tribe announced the project in April 2000, prompted bypassage of an Native American gaming-ballot initiative. Theresort-casino was slated for completion in late 2002 and set toinclude 2,000 slot machines, 70 card tables, seven restaurants anda 250-room hotel.

The 285-acre site overlooks Lake Wohlford near Valley Center.The resort was also to include a winery, a golf course, horsetrails and a campground. The estimated cost started a $180 millionand later ballooned to $230 million. The tribe opened a $40-millioninterim casino six months ago.
