Monthly cargo activity fell 19% from October 2000 and 7% for theyear through October. The international portion also dropped, down13%, compared to October 2000. For the year, international shippingis up 200%. In September, air cargo traffic dropped 42%.Thedrop-off comes as industrial construction in Austin's southeastsubmarket, where the airport is located, has picked up.Austin-based Angelou Economic Advisors has said that 42% of theindustrial construction in 2001 is in the southeast submarket.

Cargo activity logged 27 million pounds in October in comparisonto 33.7 million pounds inn October 2000 and 275 million pounds forthe year through October compared 295.4 million pounds in the first10 months of this year. International shipping totaled 1.2 millionpounds in October and 18 million pounds for the year.

On the passenger side, October activity dropped 18% from October2000. Nationally, passenger activity was down 23% in October.Year-to-year, Austin's passenger traffic is off 4%.
