eMotion Mobility Breaks Ground on Hinesville Micro-Assembly Plant

HINESVILLE, GA-EMotion Mobility plans to build a $2 million, 30,000-sf production plant near Savannah, GA early next year. The plant, at Hinesville Industrial Park, near U.S. 84 and GA 119, will produce electric-powered vehicles.

The company plans to hire about 150 workers in Hinesville, 33 miles southwest of Savannah. The company said it will hire 50 employees in April. Site construction begins in January. Production begins Sept. 1. The plant will complete between 5,000 and 6,000 electric-powered vehicles by 2004.

The privately held company is partnering with Micro Compact Car, a wholly owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler. Micro Compact Car will build the cars in France, then ship them to Hinesville where they will be retrofitted with an electric drive train.

Atlanta-based Emotion Mobility said its vehicles, which run at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, would be available for rent in Atlanta by late 2002.
