The company plans to hire about 150 workers in Hinesville, 33miles southwest of Savannah. The company said it will hire 50employees in April. Site construction begins in January. Productionbegins Sept. 1. The plant will complete between 5,000 and 6,000electric-powered vehicles by 2004.

The privately held company is partnering with Micro Compact Car,a wholly owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler. Micro Compact Carwill build the cars in France, then ship them to Hinesville wherethey will be retrofitted with an electric drive train.

Atlanta-based Emotion Mobility said its vehicles, which run atspeeds of up to 70 miles per hour, would be available for rent inAtlanta by late 2002.
