Extended StayAmerica Prepares New Hotel

AUSTIN-A new hotel is coming to southwest Austin with the opening of an Extended StayAmerica at the intersection of US 290 West and Southwest Parkway. The hotel is near large retail centers, a major corporate employer, new office buildings and several growing residential subdivisions.

The four-story, 117-room hotel will be the seventh in the Austin area built and operated by Spartanburg, SC-based Extended StayAmerica Inc. Four are under the Extended Stay banner, two are under Crossland and one is Studio Plus location.

Although the company deferred construction of some projects after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Austin hotel was one of 38 under construction on Sept. 30, when work continued. Extended StayAmerica expects to have opened eight hotels in the fourth quarter, which would give it 29 new hotels for 2001. The remaining 30 sites under construction should be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2002.

The new Austin hotel puts it in easy reach of Southwest Parkway and Motorola’s Oak Hill campus. Nearby retail centers are anchored by Target, Wal-mart and Home Depot.

Extended StayAmerica’s rooms include a queen-size bed, recliner, cable television with remote, free voice mail, free local calls, and a computer data port. Each room also has a kitchen with a refrigerator, two-burner range, microwave, coffee maker, utensils and tableware. Properties are generally staffed by five to six full-time employers and eight to 10 part-time employees.

The company in November opened 95-room hotel Waco area, its 39th hotel in the state and its 418th property overall.
