Williams Construction of Florida managed the facility'sconstruction. Home Depot could not be reached by press time forcomment. The facility was announced in May and finished last week.Doors officially open tomorrow.

According to published reports, Baytown cut a lucrative taxabatement package with the big box retailer in order to secure thesouthwestern distribution hub. The facility will serve thesouthwestern states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, NewMexico and Oklahoma. Home Depot has more than 20 stores in Houstonand the surrounding area.

Atlanta-based Home Depot's CEO and president Bob Nardelli saysthe plan is to open about 200 new stores per year over the courseof the next three years. Nardelli expects sales in fiscal year 2001to reach $53 billion.
