Infineon, based in Munich, has selected DuPont as its photomasksupplier. DuPont, in turn, will build a photomask productionfacility in Dresden that will be co-located with the researchoperation. AMD and Infineon have chip manufacturing operations inDresden.
DuPont operates photomask production and research facilities inAustin. AMD operates chip-manufacturing plants in Austin. Earlierthis year, AMD bypassed Central Texas as the site of a new chipplant in favor of a joint venture facility in Singapore.
Photomasks are used in the chip manufacturing process. Theytransfer the chip's electrical circuit design onto siliconwafers.
