The DNA wants to consolidate all of the operations of the twopapers into one building.

The News building was appraised at $16.5 million, asset managerDerek Brown tells the council. He says the DNA has back-up buyersand would sell it to someone else if the city didn't act on it. Thebuilding currently generates a little more than $200,000 inproperty taxes that will be lost when the city closes on thedeal.

The new jail is expected to cost more than $200 million.Construction must be approved by voters.
