The city of Alameda's Main Library was awarded $15.5 million forconstruction of a 47,500-sf facility in the Downtown core.Construction of the library, expected to cost $24 million, isexpected to begin in March 2004.

The city of Hercules will use a grant of $6.2 million to build anew 20,500-sf library. Construction on the $10.2 million facilityis slated to begin in February 2004.

The San Mateo Main Library will receive $20 million to pay forthe construction of a facility that will more than double the sizeof the current 43,000-sf library, which was built in 1968.Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2004. The entireproject is expected to cost $61 million.
