"We are very grateful for the continued support of the federalgovernment for our regional programs assisting homeless individualsand families," says King County Executive Ron Sims. "This awardwill allow us to continue to provide critically needed services andsupports that will help us to reduce poverty and homelessness inour local communities."

The McKinney funds will also create a new permanent housingproject for homeless persons with disabilities and one newtransitional housing project. The new permanent housing project,Shelter Plus Care, will provide an additional 12 units ofsupportive housing in the region. Pine City Inn will provide 41 newunits of transitional housing.

The majority of the award will sustain existing programs, withapproximately $14 million supporting the ongoing operations of 58programs. These programs provide 646 units of transitional housing,465 units of permanent housing for homeless people withdisabilities, 2 Safe Haven projects, a variety of supportiveservices programs, and the Safe Harbors Homeless ManagementInformation System.
