The new planning application will take into account issues ofdesign and townscape raised during the previous public inquiry andfollow fresh consultations with Oxford City Council.

Richard Cable, Director of Capital Shopping Centres, said: "Weare optimistic that the benefits to Oxford of our proposed newplanning application, which will take into account the issuesraised during the public inquiry and provide for a John LewisDepartment store, will rapidly be appreciated by all interestedparties."

And Luke Mayhew, Managing Director of John Lewis DepartmentStores, said: "We would really like to find a way to open a newdepartment store in Oxford. Although the discussions with CSC areat an early stage we think that an enhanced Westgate Centre couldprovide a really good opportunity for a new John Lewis store."
