HAYWARD, CA-Trans Freight Express Inc. has leased a 287,000-sf warehouse here in a three-year deal valued at $1.2 million. The one-time Hunt Wesson Foods manufacturing and canning facility is owned by Omaha, NB-based ConAgra Foods. The property address is 199 C St.Joyce Cunningham with BT Commercial Real Estate/NAI of Oakland represented ConAgra Foods in the transaction. Richard Sutherland with The Sutherland Company of Oakland represented Trans Freight. Sutherland tells GlobeSt.com that Trans Freight relocated its operation from 62,000-sf in San Leandro and is using the ConAgra facility to warehouse and distribute coffee and other food related products. The lease allowed Trans freight to have more space for about the same rate they were paying for the smaller space in San Leandro.Cunningham tells GlobeSt.com that after the lease expires, the property and two adjoining parcels (totaling 60 acres) are slated to be sold for redevelopment as residential housing as envisioned in the Hayward Cannery Design Plan. ConAgra at one time owned all three parcels slated for the redevelopment, but they were sold to individual owners who are striking their own deals for the redevelopment, says Cunningham.
