Earlier this year, GM sold the land for the retail center toGrand Sakwa Properties LLC, a Farmington Hills development firm.Grand Sakwa plans to start construction on the center early nextyear and complete it in 2006. A veterans memorial is planned forthe shopping center to honor its military-based history. About 30%of the site will also remain as open space.
The 83-acre site is next to GM's Grand Blanc Metal Center, wherethe automaker stamps a variety of vehicle parts. The 1.8-million-sfplant opened in 1942, and its history included testing World WarII-era tanks.
