Although a builder has yet to be named, the firm will meet withthe airport's management and begin preliminary work, says BillHartman, design director and managing director at Gensler. Theairport authority had received nine applications by design firms towork on the project.

Recently, Gensler, which has an office in Detroit, has worked onprojects at the growing Bishop International Airport in Flint.Gensler has also assisted Pontiac with planning for the eventualredevelopment of the Pontiac Silverdome. Gensler says it hasdesigned 44 airport terminals of various sizes over the past 20years.

The proposed 29-gate North Terminal is expected to include about660,000 sf of space, about 50,000 sf of which will be dedicated toconcessions. The terminal will replace the Davey Terminal, whichhas not been in use at the airport for several years.
