Home Depot and Target Corp. already have staked out locations tothe south of the 19,000-sf Chicago Printed String Co. building. Thecompany used the building to make string imprinted with itscustomers' names used to tie bakery and candy boxes.
The building was designed by Alfred S. Alschuler, one of thefirst architects in Chicago to use reinforced concrete for thestructural framework. His work includes Goldblatt Brothersdepartment store on Chicago Avenue, also designated a landmark.
