HARTLEPOOL, ENGLAND-Tees Valley Regeneration and PD Ports, Logistics and Shipping has submitted plans to the Hartlepool Borough Council for a $930-million (£500 million) redevelopment of Hartlepool’s North Dock that will include housing, entertainment, business and retail facilities. A new school, a coastal walkway and a pedestrian and cycle bridge also are part of the 200-acre project.Planned for an under-utilized stretch of waterfront north of the town center between the marina and the historic Headland, Victoria Harbour will include 3,500 homes, 1 million sf of office space and 195,000 sf of retail. Tees Valley Regeneration, an urban renewal agency formed by the government, will direct the project along with the land owner, PD Ports, Logistics and Shipping. Also involved are the national redevelopment agency English Partnerships and regional development agency One NorthEast. One of the largest brownfield redevelopments in Northeast England, the overall development is expected to take 20 years to complete. Work is due to begin in 2005 on the first phase, which is planned to deliver more than 750 homes over the next five years.
