As community development director, Tremere will oversee thecouncil's programs and staff in the areas of planning, research,housing, and regional parks and open space. Tremere has served onthe council's land use advisory committee and as chair of itslivable communities advisory committee. The latter group screensapplications and makes recommendations for about $14 million a yearin grants to local communities to help clean up contaminated lands,expand the supply of affordable housing and encourage developmentthat links housing, jobs and services.

Since 1999, Tremere has served as the administrator for severalMinnesota House committees, including the committee on localgovernment and metropolitan affairs. Previously, Tremere served for23 years in planning and managerial roles in localgovernment--including 13 years as director of community developmentfor Plymouth, two years as assistant city manager of BrooklynCenter and five years as planning and inspection director of thatcity. He also served as assistant city manager/economic developmentdirector of Prior Lake for two years.

A resident of Golden Valley since 1977, Tremere served as mayorof that city in 1994-95. He resigned from the city councileffective July 21 to accept his new position with the MetCouncil.
