The site abuts Peter's Park and the Marc Tyler Condominiumresidences and is currently being used as a temporary parkingfacility. The BRA issued a Request for Proposals in March 2004 forthe parcel, which is one of the last remaining developable parcelson Washington Street.

Gatehouse will consist of a six-story mixed-use building withground-floor retail fronting Washington Street, office and commonspace, three at-grade parking spaces for the company's vans, and 14single-room occupancy units. Floors two through four will beoccupied by Project Place and used as office space for theirprograms while the fifth and sixth floors will be used asaffordable single-room occupancy units. The total development costis approximately $6.1 million.

"The new retail space on Washington Street will be another greatasset to this thriving Main Street's district," says Mark Maloney,director of the BRA. Project Place is a nonprofit organization thatprovides training, support, education and off-site housing forwomen to enter the workforce. Currently, Project Place is based outof 32 Rutland St. but the new site will allow them to expand theirprograms and services.
