ROME, GA-Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, a 35-year-old restaurant chain institution of sorts in the South, has settled more than $100 million in racial and labor lawsuits for $8.7 million, according to an 8-K report filed by Cracker Barrel’s parent, CBRL Group Inc., with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The three-year-old suits were filed in US District Court here. Cracker Barrel officials investigated the charges over the years and found no foundation for them, according to the company’s SEC report. In settling the suit, Cracker Barrel denied any wrong doing.

A total 10,118 plaintiffs will share in the settlement, an amount that equates to an average $859.85 per plaintiff. Real estate lawyers following the protracted case tell GlobeSt.com CBRL got the better deal in the settlement. Five race-related suits were filed by 118 plaintiffs. In a separate complaint, 10,000 hourly workers sued, alleging CBRL didn’t pay them for working overtime. CBRL denied the charges.

The company operates 505 Cracker Barrel Old Country stores and 130 company-owned and franchised Logan’s Roadhouse restaurants, occupying a total 19 million sf, mostly in Southern states.
