The project is seen by many as a key step toward revitalizingPontiac's downtown area, which has been blighted for a good manyyears. Leaders of the effort to revitalize the old theater say pastdelays from unexpected problems make them hesitant to target anexact date for the opening.

A campaign to allow people to "buy a seat" in the new theaterhas now been launchd and is expected to generate about $1.1 millionto help further the project. The new complex will be managed by thenonprofit Strand Theatre Center Inc. The Pontiac Growth Group ownsthe buildings. Detroit-based White Construction is constructionmanager.
