BLAINE, MN-The Minnesota Vikings and Anoka County officials are discussing an exclusive deal to build a $600-million stadium. The team and county would then join forces to convince the Minnesota Legislature to provide state support for their deal.

Anoka County’s stadium plan would house the Vikings on a site west of Interstate Highway 35 and south of 109th Avenue Northeast. Hammes Co. is the developer working with Anoka County on the plan.

The two sides hope to agree to a finance plan. Anoka’s proposal to Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s Stadium Screening Committee was the most comprehensive Vikings proposal. The county board approved $240 million in taxes for a stadium; the Vikings have talked about committing $150 million. That leaves a gap of more than $200 million, which the state would be asked to help fill.

The partnership would be modeled on the Xcel Energy Center in which the City of St. Paul and the Minnesota Wild hockey team worked together to successfully seek state aid.
