Bob Douglas, Wilmington's assistant director of conservationplanning, tells GlobeSt.com that Mills has not made a formalproposal, but has indicated to the town that it wants to build twohotels on part of the 38-acre parcel that it is acquiring to buildthe mall. Part of that property that Mills will buy from PerkinsDevelopment Trust if its plan for the mall is fully permitted is inWilmington. The hotels will reportedly each consist of 120 rooms.Douglas notes that the property in Wilmington is currently largelywooded.

Calls to Mills Corp. were not returned by deadline, but a zoningchange required for the mall was approved this past May. Because ofits size, the retail complex cannot move forward though without thestate's approval of the zoning change as well as the environmentalapproval. But most significantly, the federal and state governmentsneed to approve the development of a new interchange on Route93.
