The 10 is up from the three stores that ShopKo renovated lastyear, and the company could make changes at up to 20 of the 140full-line stores it operates in 15 states, a spokesman says. ShopKoalso operates 220 of its smaller-format Pamida stores in smallmarkets and one ShopKo Express drugstore.

ShopKo has not released store expansion plans for its full-linestores, but the company intends to open two more drugstores inJanuary, the spokesman says. ShopKo has not opened any newfull-line stores this year.

The renovations include the widening of aisles, the addition ofwarmer green and yellow paint and new lighting. "Our goal is toestablish a less clinical, more residential environment through thecreative use of color and materials," says Sam Duncan, thecompany's president and CEO, in a statement.
