Peachtree City council approved the project despite objectionsfrom neighborhood groups in the north end of the city, where theaddition will be built between Georgian Park, GA 74 and PeachtreeParkway. The addition will include a $10-million, 124,717-sf TargetSupercenter and 13 additional buildings totaling 139,521 sf. Thetentative completion date is spring 2006.

To win the council vote, Faison officials agreed to modify theTarget exterior design so that it will not look like a warehousestructure, retail brokers attending the council meeting tellGlobeSt.com. Council members had previously objected to the Targetbuilding's industrial-like appearance in a suburban community of35,000 residents.

Faison and its partner sued the city in 2003, alleging PeachtreeCity's big-box ordinance was unconstitutional because it limitedretail ventures to 32,000 sf. The suit was settled before the trialbegan. The developers also plan a third-phase expansion of 150,000sf at an undetermined future date.
