12/08/04: A new survey released by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas shows that employers cut more than 100,000 jobs in November for the third consecutive month. This is the first time this level has been hit for that span of time since 2002. These cuts are based on rising costs in energy and health care. The statistic that really drives the point home that this recovery is not very strong is that there have been over 930,000 job cuts this year and all that is needed is another 70,000 cuts to hit one million. If this happens, it will mark the fourth straight year of over one million job cuts. Now that the election is over and all the posturing over how many jobs this economy has produced is done, it may be the time to actually take a serious approach to dealing with those that this recovery has left behind. This economy is in a very precarious position and its only hope is to shore up the financial security of those that are needed to propel it.
