BEAVERTON, OR-A vacant Copeland Lumber yard here will become anew retail location for Standard TV & Appliance if thePortland-based chain's development application is approved. The newstore would have 27,000 sf of display area and focus on high-endproducts.The 2.2-acre property is located on Southwest HallBoulevard at Colony Lane, just east of Cedar Hills Boulevard. Ifthe application process goes smoothly, demolition of the existingstructures on the site will begin in January and the new storecould open as soon as October.Designed to compete against the likesof Sears, the new store is slated to include 16 working kitchensshowcasing appliances ranging in price from $1,000 to $20,000. Thestore also will sell mattresses and home electronics, such asplasma televisions. If built, the project will sit nearby CedarHills Crossing, the recently redeveloped Beaverton Mall, and acrossthe street from Hall Street Grill. As well, New Seasons Market hasannounced it will open a grocery store near the site in 2006.Copeland owners Helen Jo and Bill Whitsell announced plans to sellthe property in 1999. They closed the lumber yard one year later.Standard TV closed on the property in February.Regardless of thepotential new store, Standard plans to keep open its existingBeaverton location just east of Oregon 217 on Southwest CanyonRoad. The smaller store may be converted into a discount center,according to published reports.
