SAN FRANCISCO-Nion McEvoy, CEO of locally based Chronicle Books, is the new owner of 680 2nd St. McEvoy tells GlobeSt.com that the vacant 73,544-sf building will be renovated for use as the new headquarters of Chronicle Books. Under the name McEvoy Properties LLC, McEvoy paid Bank of America $5.4 million for the property, according to Colliers International, which had the disposition assignment. The property has been unoccupied since BofA foreclosed on it two years ago. Chronicle Books is currently located in a smaller amount of leased space at 85 2nd St. McEvoy says no firm schedule is set for the renovation and eventual relocation. It is likely there will be excess space for which another tenant will be sought, adds McEvoy. Founded in 1966, Chronicle Books employs about 160 people who publish general trade books, children’s books and a lot of note cards and stationary. The company’s high-profile books include the Beatles Anthology and an upcoming book with Paul McCartney.Frank Wheeler, Tony Crossley and Tim Maas with Colliers International had the disposition assignment for BofA. None of the brokers could be reached for comment.
