LMDC has requested approval to install sidewalk bridges, aperimeter site fence and a concrete pad for the hoist. A request toinstall hanging rigs support frames was denied pending approval ofthe completed deconstruction plan.

LastDecember in a draft deconstruction plan, the LMDC detailed thespecifics of the process that will be used to take the1.4-million-sf building down. The office was heavily damaged in theSept. 11 terrorist attacks when debris from the World Trade Centerbroke windows and cut a 15-story gash in the north facade. Thatplan has been revised and the LMDC plans to submit its response tocomments from the United States Environmental Protection Agency,the New York State Department of Labor and the New York StateDepartment of Environmental Conservation this week.

Recently after a competitive bidding process, the LMDC selecteda joint venture of Regional Scaffolding & Hoisting Co., Inc.and Safeway Environmental Corp. for the installation of theexterior scaffolding system. The LMDC anticipates the prep workwill be completed within two weeks. No further work will occuruntil either the deconstruction plan is approved or additionalnon-intrusive prep work is deemed necessary.
