The Gwinnett County developer has formed a 20-member GeorgiaBrain Trust to design a route over existing CSX Corp. rail linesthat would run from 12 Metro Atlanta stations 60 miles northeast toAthens in Clarke County. Four of the 12 proposed stations are inGwinnett County at Lilburn, Reagan Parkway, Lawrenceville andCedars Road.

Sources close to the project tell GlobeSt.com the $375-millionundertaking could conceivably generate about $5 billion in economicgrowth to the area over 15 years. New real estate developmentprojects would be part of that growth, sources in a position toknow tell GlobeSt.com. The rail line would connect biotechnologyresearch centers at Georgia Tech, Emory University, GeorgiaGwinnett College and the University of Georgia at Athens.

Local, state and federal agencies would have to sign off on theproject before it could proceed. The Gwinnett Chamber of Commercesupports the planned venture.
