The 20,000-sf, multimillion dollar project is set to becompleted by November. It will be paid for by the Delaware NorthCos.-Boston, which owns and operates the TD Banknorth Garden, thevenue for the Boston Celtics and Bruins, located over NorthStation.

"As a direct result of comments received from many of thethousands of daily commuter rail customers who use North Station,the expansion and renovation plans have been put on a fast track,"says Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority general managerDaniel Grabauskas. Many passengers have complained about thestation's crowded conditions, officials note.

Among the changes planned are improved crowd control measuresdesigned to separate passengers from individuals attending Gardenevents. A large, overhead electronic board with schedule and trackinformation will also be added to the concourse.
