NEWTON, MA-A local developer has broken ground on a 180-unitapartment complex on the site of a former commuter parking lot atthe Woodland MBTA station. It is the first transit-oriented housingproject in the western suburbs.

Ted Tye, managing partner for National Development, which isbuilding Arborpoint atWoodland Station, tells GlobeSt.com that the groundbreakingculminates nine years of collaboration between the developer andthe Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, MassHousing and theCity of Newton. "Our vision for Arborpoint at Woodland Station wasto create a residential community that meets demand in the area forhigh quality rental housing and will become the benchmark forfuture smart-growth and transit-oriented developments."
