However, the Macy's signs will go up this summer.Meanwhile, the latest owner of the landmark building and MarshallField's label plans a four-year renovation program, aimed atupgrading both the interior and exterior of the 99-year-old,1.6-million-sf retail property.

The store also will capitalize on an alternate address on thenorth side of the building, 28 E. Washington St., where it willopen the 28 Shop with a private elevator and doorman. The conceptharkens back to the 1940s, when Marshall Field's customers madeappointments to shop at the store.
