MATAWAN, NJ-C-Town Supermarkets has gotten the go-ahead to openan 11,800-sf supermarket on Main Street in this Monmouth Countycommunity's downtown area. The local planning and zoning boardyesterday granted the New York-based regional grocery chain itsapproval to open up on the site, which was formerly occupied byrival grocer Foodtown, and before that a hardware store.

One of the issues involving the project dealt with parking;Steve Hanna, president of C-Town had proposed 32 parking spaces,while local ordinances call for a minimum of 74 parking spaces fora retail building of that size. The project will get the 74 space,and Hanna says he's currently in negotiations with the owners of anadjacent site to complete that parking complement.
