BOSTON-Three Bay State colleges could benefit if the statelegislature approves an economic stimulus bill that will providefunding to help build biotech and research facilities on theircampuses. The vote will take place today.

If approved, the legislation will give the University ofMassachusetts at Lowell $21 million to build a nano-technology andbiotechnology-manufacturing building and allow the state to issuebonds for $14 million more for the facility. The school will raiseanother $45 million through a $35-million bond issue and $10million in private funding. The $80-million facility has not yetbeen designed.
