The facility is part of a $500-million, one-million-sf mixed-useproject now under construction by Newton, MA-based NationalDevelopment near the MBTA's Orange Line station at WellingtonCircle in Medford. The build-to-suit sports club, which is amongseveral tenants that have recently signed on to be part of theproject, will offer a pool, group exercise studios, a mind-bodystudio, a spinning studio, strength training equipment,cardiovascular machines, massage and baby sitting services.Construction on the health and fitness club will begin later thisyear with completion slated for late 2007 or early 2008.

"It was important to the Station Landing concept to offer theexcitement of one of the best health and fitness clubs in theBoston area," says Ted Tye, managing partner of NationalDevelopment, noting that the development firm has been working formore than a year to bring the health club to the transit-orientedproject. The transaction was arranged for the tenant by Robert P.Fitzgerald Jr., with NAI Hunneman Commercial's Boston office.

The Wellington Station project, one of two transit-orienteddevelopments currently under construction by National Developmentin the Greater Boston area, will include housing, retail andcommercial space as well as a hotel.
