Jessica Schumaker, with the Boston Redevelopment Authority,tells GlobeSt.com that developers John B. Hynes III and VornadoRealty Trust are expected to file plans with the city today tobuild a 495-foot, 1.2-million-sf tower that would contain 500,000sf of office space. It would also feature 177,500 sf of retail, 140condos and a 207-room boutique hotel on the Washington and Summerstreets site.

The property, which was designated a historic landmark by thecity's Landmark Commission in May, will be substantially preservedalthough two of the buildings, both constructed in the 1950s willbe demolished in July, Schumaker says. Construction on the tower,pending permitting approval, should begin in January, 2008, sheadds.

New York-based Vornado recently acquired the landmarkproperty for about $100 million from Federated Department StoresInc. and has partnered with Hynes to develop the site. NeitherVornado nor Hynes returned calls by GlobeSt.com's deadline.
