PLAINFIELD, IN-Dick's Sporting Goods has expanded its Midwestdistribution center here to 725,000 sf from 350,000 sf. Theexpansion, which was managed by Indianapolis-based BrandtConstruction, also has more than doubled the capacity of thefacility, which currently services 100 Dick's stores. At fullcapacity, the center will service up to 230 stores and employ asmany as 700 people, according to the company.

Pittsburgh-based Dick's acquired the distribution center in June2004 in conjunction with its purchase of Galyan's Trading Co. Atthat time, there were 190 employees working at the facility. TodayDick's employs 310 workers there, and plans to have more than 400full-time associates on board before the end of next year.
