DALLAS-Austin’s retail powerhouse Endeavor Real Estate Group has assembled a trio of leading executives to roll out its first office outside its homeport. And, the focus will be to develop 300,000 sf or larger centers and mixed use.

Brian Murphy and Adam Schiller, both executive vice presidents for Dallas-based Staubach Retail, are teaming with David Cassman, senior director of the development division for Atlanta-based Home Depot Inc. The three principals in charge, still looking for office space in North Dallas, have mapped out a development territory encompassing North Texas and surrounding states.

“Brian and Adam have been a big part of our company and we wish them well,” Clay Smith, president of Staubach Retail, says in a prepared statement for GlobeSt.com. Murphy had been with Staubach for 15 of his 25 years in the business and Schiller, with 17 years’ experience, had marked his 12th year with the firm. Home Depot’s executive office could not be reached before deadline to comment on the exit of Cassman, who has spent more than two decades on the development end for national retailers.

Endeavor principal Chris Ellis says discussions to open the office began nearly one year ago. “Just recently all partners thought it made a lot of sense and it progressed quickly,” he tells GlobeSt.com. “We would not have opened in Dallas had it not been the talent in Brian, Adam and David that was available.”

Ellis says the plan calls for a development-focused boutique operation. “They all wanted to get into development,” he says. In Austin, Endeavor’s development expertise has delivered regional projects like the 1.6-million-sf SouthPark Meadows in the southern sector and the Domain, a 750,000-sf mix of new and redeveloped space north of the Downtown.

“Staubach is a hard place to leave,” Murphy says. “It’s got a great culture, but this gave us more of an opportunity to focus on development, to expand what we do and take advantage of the relationships that we have.” He says the team already is prospecting some sites in cities that “we feel are under-served.” Before the year ends, the trio’s plan is to have at least one project working through the channels.

As for Cassman, the move is right in line with plans that he’s had on the backburner at least 15 years, set aside first for a position with Minneapolis-based Target Corp. and then Home Depot. Now, he’s teaming with partners like Ellis and Endeavor principal Charlie Northington, who’d helped him to stake out Home Depot’s Texas sites when he arrived 10 years ago. “It’s a good group of guys who’ve got the right attitude,” he says.

Endeavor was formed in 1999 by a group of former Trammell Crow Co. executives to focus on Central Texas. To date, the firm has developed or acquired more than 7.85 million sf valued at roughly $980 million and now has 7.4 million sf under development. “We’re ready to extend our presence in the South Central United States and look forward to Adam, David and Brian leading this effort,” Ellis says in a press release about the roll-out.
