"It is clear that after long delay this project--while it maynot have been the one we would have designed--must be built and wemust get moving," says Spitzer in a statement.
The Freedom Tower is being developed by the Port Authority ofNew York and New Jersey, a move that was solidified in September,as reported by GlobeSt.com.The PA agreed to control the building, making Silverstein the hiredcontractor for the facility. The Freedom Tower broke ground lastApril. A number of government organizations have agreed to lease asignificant amount of space in the facility.
The governor and Mayor Michael Bloomberg are meeting today todiscuss funding for the project.
